Robert Metzler was hired in March 1975 as a writer on the "Columbo" show and continued with it until August 1977. Throughout this period he kept diaries, making his first entry on March 26 and thereafter making notes nearly even weekday. He records details of "deals, writers, actors, scripts, people hired and fired, Universal Productions, NBC and almost daily dealings with Peter Falk...." Metzler's diaries offer a rare and sensitive behind-the-scenes look at the creation and marketing of a widely popular television program.
Acquisition of this collection was made possible by gifts from Friends of the University Libraries.
