Designer and engraver Barry Moser has produced the first full Bible illustrated by a single person in over a hundred years: French artist Gustave Dore was the last, in the 1880s. The Libraries has long collected Moser's work (and twice exhibited it), and asked the Friends of the Libraries to take on the task of raising funds to acquire a copy of the 400 copy limited edition, priced at $10,000. As the Friends were organizing themselves, Curtis Stucki, who briefly in the 1960s headed Special Collections and who now lives in Olympia, Washington, offered to buy the book in memory of his father, Frank Emmanual Stucki (1895-1961), a minister in Iowa and Wisconsin.
