Seki Yoshikuni, Edo Tokyo Kamusuki Shiko
(Tokyo, 1943)

The title of this rare book translates as Historical Considerations of Japanese Paper Making in Edo or Tokyo During the Early Meiji Period. It is a very full account of historical paper making and contains numerous color and black and white illustrations as well as many actual paper samples. The image reproduced above shows all parts of a village at work making paper. The image below shows women preparing the fiber for paper making.

This wonderful volume was presented to the Libraries by Virginia Gardner, VLT Gardner Books in Santa Barbara, CA, in recognition of Timothy Barrett and the work of the Papermaking Facililty maintained by the University of Iowa Center for the Book.
