Special Collections Finding Aids A - Z List
Manuscript holdings in the University of Iowa Libraries include both individually cataloged items and boxed collections. More than 10,000 letters or manuscript pieces created by English and American literary or historical figures, principally from the 19th and 20th centuries, are individually cataloged, with records available in InfoHawk, the Libraries' on-line information system, or in a card catalog located in the department.
Brief descriptions of each of the boxed collections in Special Collections -- size, date range, a sentence or two regarding content -- are arranged alphabetically A-Z by the name of the person, organization, or company that created them. There are well over a thousand such collections.
The names of faculty members and non-University organizations whose papers are held in University Archives is Included in this A-Z list; names of University departments, schools, and units are not (but links to holdings can be found on the "Records Groups" page). The Iowa Women's Archives maintains a similar A-Z list of collections housed there .
Additional bibliographic information may be found either in the department card catalog, or for those entries marked with an asterisk (*), in InfoHawk.
Finding aids for most collections are now available on-line and are linked by the highlighted words "(Finding Aid)" at the end of the descriptive entry. To view, just click. Finding aids not yet on-line or further information about collections not as yet fully processed is available from the department on request.
