is the theme for the 1997 Midwest Chapter/MLA annual Meeting. The conference will be held at the Savery Hotel and Spa in Des Moines, September 27-30. Now is the time to mark your calendar for what promises to be an exciting and thought-provoking experience! We have chosen the word "Kaleidoscope" as the theme for the 1997 annual meeting because we believe it is an especially apt metaphor for the environment of health sciences libraries as we approach the 21st Century. A Kaleidoscope exhibits:

	Continuing Education Opportunities at a Glance (for more information, click on the appropriate link) Conference attendees will have their choice of five classes, two which are being developed specifically for this conference. CE classes are priced at $85 (half-day) and $125 (full-day) Clinical Pathways (Saturday, PM) QuickDoc (Saturday, PM) Telemedicine (Tuesday, AM) Health Sciences and the Internet (Tuesday, all-day) Principles of Hospital Librarianship (Tuesday, all-day)
	Call for Papers and Posters Midwest Chapter MLA members who have developed unique library programs are encouraged to participate in MC/MLA97 by submitting either a poster or a paper. Posters accepted will be displayed in the registration area throughout the sessions. Contributed papers will be presented on Sunday, September 28. 	Registration and Lodging Kaleidoscope is extra affordable! Early and late conference registration fees have been set at $100 and $150 respectively. Accommodations will be available in the Savery Hotel and Spa with economy single rooms starting at only $50 per day and deluxe doubles priced at $85. With free shuttle to and from the airport and parking at only $4 per day (free on weekends), this is one conference you can afford! Click on the link above for more information.
	Getting to the Conference  If you're flying-- The Midwest Chapter/MLA Official Travel Agency is: A-1 Travel & Tours 1-800-747-4690 (FAX: 515-287-6221) A-1 Travel and Tours can book flights with any major airline carrier and will provide the best ticket price available. Please mention you are with the Midwest Chapter/MLA. A portion of the travel proceeds will be donated to the Midwest Chapter/MLA Program. If you're driving ... From North, South, East or West: Take I-80 or I-35 to I-235 (enter at either end of I-235) Exit I-235 at 5th Ave (Convention Center). This is a one-way street going south. Turn left (East) on Locust Savery Hotel is at Locust and 4th. To get to parking lot, turn left on 4th (a one-way street). Parking will be on your right.
	Opening Reception The Hospitality Committee welcomes you to the opening reception in the atrium of Capital Square on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:00. Overlooking the city of Des Moines, this is the perfect place to taste some fabulous hors d'oeuvres, visit with old friends and make new ones.

Midwest Chapter, Medical Library Association

The Midwest Chapter/MLA is one of 14 regional chapters of the Medical Library Association. As an MLA chapter, the organization serves as a regional link for MLA members residing in the Midwest. The Midwest Chapter/MLA also welcomes non-MLA members and those that reside outside the Midwest Chapter boundaries. The states within the Midwest boundaries are: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin Membership: Dues are $10 for one calendar year. Personal membership is open to any individual working in or interested in health science libraries. It is not necessary to belong to the Medical Library Association to joining the Midwest Chapter, althought the chapter does encourage membership in the national organization.
