Local Applications Sessions Session A - Christopher Roy and Linda
McIntyre, University of Iowa Professor Roy and Dr. McIntyre will discuss their multimedia CD and web-based project "Art and Life in Africa" funded by a U.S. Dept. of Education FIPSE grant. Art and Life in Africa is a multimedia, interactive textbook on sub-Saharan African art and culture. Portions of the project are also available on the web (http://www.uiowa.edu/~africart). Padmini
Srinivasan, University of Iowa Professors Landon and Srinivasan will provide comments regarding full text applications for digital collections and especially the power of SGML encoding (markup language) in enhancing the usefulness of electronic full text materials for scholars and students. |

and Data Crosswalk Dr. Younger and Ms. Lougee will review major national and regional projects to effectively access large digital databases. Younger will also discuss national recommendations and proposals for the development of "metadata" that can support reliable discovery and retrieval of electronic documents. |
