{"id":259,"date":"2022-07-21T13:15:54","date_gmt":"2022-07-21T18:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/collections\/?page_id=259"},"modified":"2022-07-22T08:41:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T13:41:17","slug":"google-books-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/collections\/google-books-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Books Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2007, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btaa.org\/library\/book-search\/cic-google-agreement\">Big Ten Academic Alliance<\/a> announced its partnership with Google to digitize millions of volumes from CIC libraries.\u00a0 The University of Iowa is participating in this innovative scanning project.\u00a0 Originally started in 2015, this is our second iteration. Beginning March 2020, the University of Iowa Libraries will once again be shipping books out for digitization. \u00a0After scanning, books will be returned to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/annex\/\">Annex<\/a>. The final scanned versions of these books will be freely available through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hathitrust.org\/\">HathiTrust<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/\">Google Books\u00a0<\/a>began in 2004, partnering first with Harvard University, New York Public Library, University of Michigan, Oxford University Library and Stanford University.\u00a0 Since partnering with libraries, Google\u2019s digitized corpus contains more than 25 million volumes.
