Just getting started? <\/strong>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/dmptool.org\/quick_start_guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QuickStart Guide <i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"> <\/i><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/data\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contact Research Data Services<\/a>. There&#8217;s also this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/creating-data-management-plans-dmptool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video introduction by NNLM <i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"> <\/i><\/a>\u00a0 (DMPTool demo begins at 22:20).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Always review your funding opportunity before getting started to ensure you\u2019re following the most up-to-date requirements for your grant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The DMPTool provides templates based on funder requirements, but occasionally it may not reflect very recent changes reflected on the funder\u2019s website or in FOAs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Collaborators: <\/strong>This is where you can invite specific people to read, edit, or administer your plan. Invitees will receive an email notification that they have access to this plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Other people&#8217;s plans:<\/strong> You may find plans that have been shared by others via DMPTool,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not all plans are well written. <strong><strong>Be aware that these plans have not necessarily been reviewed by the researcher\u2019s institution, peer reviewers, or the funding agency.<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>We generally do not recommend sharing your own plans publicly, at least until they have been reviewed at the UI and approved by the funding agency. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/data\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contact us<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Don&#8217;t include URLs in your plan. <\/strong>NIH does not accept links in plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Downloading your plan <\/strong>&#8211; when it&#8217;s finalized and ready to be included in your proposal<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This allows you to download your plan in various formats. You can adjust the formatting (font type, size, and margins) for PDF files, which may be helpful if working with page limits (e.g., NSF are limited to 2 pages).<\/li>\n<li>Select just <em>Section Headings<\/em> (and review the output) if you want to keep the outline to a minimum. Finalizing your plan [Optional]<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This tab has two important, <strong>optional<\/strong> functions: sharing your plan with other UI users, or publicly; and registering your plan with ORCID.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We generally do not recommend taking either of these steps, at least until they have been reviewed at the UI and approved by the funding agency. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/data\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contact us<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Setting your plan visibility: by default, all new and test plans will be set to Private visibility. Public and Organizational visibility are intended for finished plans. You must answer at least 50% of the questions to enable these options.<\/li>\n<li>Registering your completed plan and adding it to your ORCID account.
