The awards will be presented at an <strong>Awards Ceremony at the Old Capitol Museum on November 9th at 5pm<\/strong>. This will be followed by a reception featuring hors d&#8217;oeuvres and displaying the top 10 pieces in every category. All are welcome to join us!<\/p>\n<p>The images will be digitally preserved and added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/islandora\/object\/ui:cyr\">Libraries\u2019 Iowa Digital Library<\/a>. <span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">See the 2020 winners in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/events\/capture-your-research\/captureyourresearch2020-2\/\">digital gallery.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Definition of Research<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What is your day like as a researcher? We want to capture images that feature how interesting life is in research. What images might you be seeing in your day to day life that others might not? What images could encompass your work? What drives you to continue to work in research?<\/p>\n<p>Research is broadly defined to mean any systematic investigation or study into a product, process or concept to develop new and improved products and understandings.\u00a0 Examples can range from redesigning a more ergonomic chair or investigating toxicology in drinking water or developing treatments to devastating illness or investigating human behavior in order to better understand ourselves, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winners will be selected from 4 categories with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awarded in each category.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate Student<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Student<\/li>\n<li>Faculty\/Staff\/Researchers<\/li>\n<li>People\u2019s Choice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The top 10 the first three categories will be considered for People\u2019s Choice and displayed in the reception post ceremony.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Voting for People&#8217;s Choice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The voting deadline is October 29th at 11:59 pm.\u00a0 The top 3 choices will be announced during the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 9th at the Old Capitol Museum from 5-7 p.m.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Submission Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><!--StartFragment --><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>Deadline has passed<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The image must be a High Resolution Image with a 2:3 aspect ratio suitable for printing as a 20\u2033 x 30\u2033 poster<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Best: 6000 pixels x 9000 pixels<\/li>\n<li>Minimum: 2500 pixels x 3750 pixels<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/photo-competition-req-check\/\">Check your photo quality<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Submission can be changed, withdrawn or adjusted up until the October 8th deadline through the online form or by emailing <a href=\"mailto:kari-kozak@uiowa.edu\">Kari Kozak<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>August 29th &#8211; Submission Opens<br \/>\nNow &#8211; October 15th &#8211; Submission Closes<br \/>\nMid-October &#8211; Judging<br \/>\nOctober 23rd &#8211; October 29th &#8211; People\u2019s Choice Voting<br \/>\nNovember 9th &#8211; Awards Ceremony\/Reception, Old Capitol Museum, 5-7pm<\/p>\n<p>This will be based on a similar project at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.ualberta.ca\/images-of-research\">University of Alberta.<\/a> You can see examples of images submitted to the University of Alberta competition <a href=\"https:\/\/era.library.ualberta.ca\/communities\/e14a6354-b557-4a15-8e99-70ad237be121\">here<\/a>. We are also adapting this from the 2020 Capture Your Research event.
