In addition, impact factors vary greatly between subject areas\/disciplines.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"2\"><\/a>Accessing Journal Citation Reports<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the Hardin Library homepage at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/\">http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Click on the link that says \u201cHealth Sciences Resources A-Z.\u201d\u00a0 It is located at the bottom of the section, \u201cPopular Databases.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cJournal Citation Reports\u201d from the list.<\/li>\n<li>If you are off-campus, you will be prompted for your Hawk ID and password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><a id=\"3\"><\/a>Searching for Journals by Subject (Recommended)<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Once you have accessed the database, you will see options to select the science or social science database. Keep in mind that the most recent scores will be from the previous year.<\/li>\n<li>On the right, select \u201cSubject Category\u201d from \u201cView a Group of Journals By\u201d and then click on \u201cSubmit.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Next, select your subject category.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cView Journal Data,\u201d and then choose how you would like your results sorted from the drop box.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cSubmit.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Now, you will see a list of journals in the category you chose. If you look to the top left of the screen, you will notice options for sorting the journals by title, impact factor, Eigenfactor, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3502 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/files\/journal_summary_list-300x46.png\" alt=\"View Category Summary List\" width=\"300\" height=\"46\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/files\/journal_summary_list-300x46.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/files\/journal_summary_list.png 498w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>etc. You can also decide to view the category summary list (this may help with interpreting the impact factors since those can vary greatly between different subjects.)<\/li>\n<li>Clicking on a journal title will allow you to see more information, such as how the impact factor was determined, the number of self cites for that journal, etc. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3501 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/files\/journal_impact_factors.png\" alt=\"Highlighting location of I icon next to header\" width=\"209\" height=\"25\" \/>To learn more about any of the data in Journal Citation Reports, use the \u201ci\u201d icon.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>\u00a0<a id=\"4\"><\/a>Searching for a Specific Journal by Title<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Once you have accessed the database, you will have options to select the science or social science database.
