Iowa Icons: Leaders, Innovators, and Trailblazers in the History of Iowa Medicine<\/span><\/em>
\nThe University of Iowa has an impressive history of leadership and innovation in medicine, healthcare, and education in the health sciences. It has <\/span>a long list<\/span> of \u201cfirsts\u201d and even more scientists, educators, and clinicians who have helped shape modern healthcare practices.<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span>Join us on Wednesday, April 29, 4-7 p.m., for the 2026 Annual John Martin Rare Book Room Open House, where we will highlight a selection of <\/span>those iconic<\/span> leaders, innovators, and trailblazers<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The John Martin Rare Book Room Presents<\/strong><\/p>\n

This lecture series highlights the breadth and depth of the collection. It brings together historians of medicine and the health sciences, humanities scholars, librarians, artists, and bibliophiles from all walks of life to tell their stories, the stories of the famous – and not so famous – medical practitioners, scientists, and patients throughout the ages, and the stories of the books themselves. The lectures occur quarterly and occasionally in conjunction with the Iowa Bibliophiles<\/a> series from the University of Iowa Libraries Special Collections.<\/p>\n
