Web Policies, Accessibility, Style & Best Practices Guide

The University of Iowa Libraries presents itself to the world in diverse ways. In addition to personal interactions, our dozens of branches, units and departments communicate through a variety of media. It is imperative that, while respecting and encouraging independence and initiative, the libraries presents itself in a recognizable and professional manner.

One of our most powerful tools in reaching our various audiences is the web, where a unified identity is extremely important. Visitors come to the site from several directions and enter at all levels. When viewing a page, they should immediately be able to recognize it first and foremost as a page belonging to the University of Iowa Libraries website.  The website reflects the Libraries’ institutional presence, and content should be evaluated accordingly.

The following guidelines have been developed to help insure consistent and effective visual and navigational design of all parts of the website of the University of Iowa Libraries.
