Libraries Information Technology

The Library Information Technology (LIT) unit collaborates with staff in all areas of the University Libraries to provide leadership in the creation, transmission, and preservation of knowledge by providing centralized technology, systems, and services in support of the Library’s mission.

The staff in LIT provide application development, configuration and IT support for Library-specific software.  Some applications are vended and managed locally, some are hosted, and others are developed in-house.  In addition, LIT staff develop and manage Library websites.

Off-Campus issue with Google Scholar

Off-campus users have been experiencing problems using Google Scholar to access the University of Iowa Libraries resources. Some users have reported seeing the following message:

“ERROR for site owner: Invalid domain for site key”

This is occurring because of Google Scholar’s interactions with our proxy server. If you experience this error and are off-campus, a possible workaround is to go directly to Google Scholar (i.e. not through links on our website that use the proxy sever). This will allow you to search Google Scholar, but you won’t see the “ViewIt@UILink” links which shows local options for full-text of the resource. However, you can still view full-text if you sign in to Google Scholar by following these directions:

  1. Go to
  2. Click the three horizontal bars in the upper left hand corner and seelct “Settings”
  3. Click on “Library links”
  4. Search “iowa” to find the “ViewIt@UILink” option
  5. Select and save.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
