Carl Orgren was Director and Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Science when he temporarily headed the University Libraries. He started his career in the Detroit Public Library; served as head of circulation and reference at the University of Detroit Library; and was an assistant professor of library science at Wayne State before coming to Iowa in 1970.
Orgren received a B.A. in from the University of Detroit, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in library science from the University of Michigan. In August 1996 he stepped down from the directorship of the library school to return full time to teaching.
