Scope and Contents
The material in this collection consists of tickets, postcards, pamphlets, handbooks, programs, newspaper clippings, reports, advertising copies, stock subscription blanks, and all matter of forms relating to the creation and maintenance of the Lincoln Chautauquas. In addition, a few items are here from the Lincoln Temperance Chautauqua, based in Illinois.
Historical Note
Founded in 1905 by Alonzo E. Wilson, the Lincoln Chautauqua Bureau operated out of Chicago. In 1917, there were two circuit chautauquas operated by Wilson under the banner of Lincoln Chautauquas: the National Lincoln Chautauqua System out of Chicago and Lincoln Chautauquas out of Atlanta, Georgia. WIlson remained president of both.
