Scope and Contents
This collection consists of reference files and related materials assembled by the Iowa City Education Project in the late 1960s and early 1970s, at the height of the era of mass protests over civil rights, the American involvement in Vietnam, and other hot-button issues of the day. The collection includes files of leaflets, newsletters and other publications from a number of different protest groups and social justice organizations, as well as information concerning various American corporations.
Also included are subject files relating to a number of different topics relevant to the social and political agitations of the period.
Historical Note
The Iowa City Education Project was a left-leaning information clearinghouse in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It was operated by Bert Marian and based in North Liberty, Iowa. It appears to have been a private organization, although it did collaborate with the University of Iowa's Action Studies Program on at least one effort - a bibliography of magazine articles relating to Vietnam in 1967-1968.
