In 2007, the Big Ten Academic Alliance announced its partnership with Google to digitize millions of volumes from CIC libraries. The University of Iowa is participating in this innovative scanning project. Originally started in 2015, this is our second iteration. Beginning March 2020, the University of Iowa Libraries will once again be shipping books out for digitization. After scanning, books will be returned to our Annex. The final scanned versions of these books will be freely available through HathiTrust. Google Books began in 2004, partnering first with Harvard University, New York Public Library, University of Michigan, Oxford University Library and Stanford University. Since partnering with libraries, Google’s digitized corpus contains more than 25 million volumes. The UI Libraries is excited about the opportunity to share its rich collections with local, national and international researchers and scholars.
