Creation of Leigh Hunt Online: The Letters has been made possible by the generous contribution from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation.

We are very grateful for the kind permission of Mrs. Patricia Cheney, who allowed us to incorporate her late husband’s scholarly work into the project and furthermore agreed to transfer copyrights attached to her hustand’s work to the University of Iowa LIbraries.  We are also deeply grateful to Eleanor M. Gates and Anne Skagan for granting permission to integrate transcripts and notes from Leigh Hunt: A Life in Letters by Eleanor M. Gates.  In the case of several letters from Thomas Carlyle, we are indebted to Brent Kinser of Duke University’s Carlyle Letters Online for the use of their transcripts.  We are also grateful to the community of scholars who contributed to the project by writing transcripts for many of the letters.  In particular, we would like to offer our thanks to the following: Kim Blank, Laura Capp, Mia Chen, Susan Cook, Paul M. Curtis, Nancy Derbyshire, Anna Dodson, Jonathan Drnjevic, Ruth Garcia, Sarah Ruth Jacobs, Mary Lynn Johnson, Colleen K. Kelley, Evgenia Korolyova, David Latane, Rachel Lee, Mark McCutcheon, Sarah Mechlovitz, Rebecca Nesvet, Lirim Neziroski, Annie Parker Liss, Sharon Ragaz, Roland Racevskis, Charles E. Robinson, Emily Senior, Susan J. Stanfield, Brad Sullivan, Marcy Tanter, Tim Webb, Joshua Wilner, and Lisa M. Leigh Hunt Online: The Letters has benefitted greatly from inter-institutional cooperation.  We are particularly thankful for the cooperation of the Ward M. Canaday Center at the University of Toledo, which provided access to Dr. Cheney’s papers.  We also offer thanks to Nicholas Roe of the University of St. Andrews for offering advice in the developmental stages of the project.  Our thanks also go to the Wellesley College’s Special Collections Department, the University of Kentucky Archives, and the University of Delaware’s Special Collections Department, all of which have contributed images of Hunt letters from their collections.  We also wish to acknowledge Charles E. Robinson and Charles Boucher, each of whom contributed images of letters in their private collections.

Inter-departmental cooperation within the University of Iowa Libraries has been essential to the success of this project.  Our especial thanks go to Kristin Baum of the Conservation Unit of the Preservation Department for her many hours of conservation work on Hunt’s letters, and most particularly for advice and labor on letters that had been tipped into literary works or bound together into volumes of correspondence.  We are also grateful to Nicki Saylor, Mark Anderson, and Jen Wolfe of Digital Library Services for their assistance with establishing metadata procedures and with technical aspects of the project.  We are grateful to Greg Prickman, Assistant Head of Special Collections, for designing the project webpage.  John Osborn of Information Technology Services is also due many thanks for his assistance in preparing RDF data for submission to NINES.
