Cheney, William M. Offhand Display of the Types in Our Basement. Los Angeles: Ye Job Press, 1949. 1 5/8″ x 1 1/8″. Printed on boards with brown cloth spine. This is a type specimen book showing five different faces. Colophon: For the Lincoln Fellowship of Southern California. 50 copies printed by William M. Cheney. Bound in yellowed boards with brown cloth spine. Boards are a bit rubbed and inside text has cracked away from the binding. B20th 1.

[Cheney, W.M] I Hate This Book. Los Angeles, 1950. 2 ¾” x 2″. One of 16 or 18 copies printed by Cheney. The text is by Grant Dahlstrom, but actually written and printed by Will Cheney. “This is the skimpiest book I have ever seen. I rejoice that the other books in my library are not like this.” From the library of Roby Wentz. With a 1980 card from Msgr, Francis J. Weber presenting the leaflet to Bliss. B20th 3/688.

Each page of text is outlined by a red border. Bound in coarse blue paper wrapper with overlapping edges and title printed in red on the front. B20th 5.

4 ¼” x 3″. Light brown paper wrapper with printed title. Six leaves (first and last two blank). Recto of second leaf is title page (The Typesticker’s Lament / Will Cheney [italic] / [flower in red] / Los Angeles / 1956), verso blank. Third and fourth leaves are numbered pages 1 – 3 (with verso of fourth blank).  Text is headed “Cheney Pty Wks” [in a floral box printed red]. Date of Jan. 15, 1956 and text begins, “Dear Neal, / I have not yet got clear of the mess that piled up on me before Christmas…” B20th: Not listed.
