The Collection
This self-serve area contains a wide variety of materials including:
- special items on loan by instructors
- standard reference texts
Search the UI Course Reserves database by course instructor, course name, course number, title, author, department and more.
Library books that are on Reserve will indicate PERMANENT RESERVE or COURSE RESERVE in the catalogs.
In-House Policies
Materials must be checked out to remove them from the reserve area. Some reserve materials — including personal copies — may not be used outside the library.
Borrowing Privileges
To borrow materials from the Reserve Area, you must have a University of Iowa identification card. Visitors to the library may use reserve materials only in the reserve area.
Loan Periods
Items are checked out for a 2 hour period, unless otherwise noted (a small number of materials circulate for 3 days and are marked accordingly).
Overnight check out:
2 hour loans may be taken out 2 hours before the Library closes. The item is due back the next morning at opening.
Renewal Policy:
No renewals for Reserve materials.
2 hour loans: Must stay on shelf for 30 minutes before re-checkout.
3 day loans: Must stay on shelf for 60 minutes before re-checkout.
1 week loans: No restrictions
Fines
2 hour items and overnight videos: $ 2.00 per hour to a maximum of $40.00 per item.
3 day items: $4.00 per day to a maximum of $40.00 per item.
