Study Tables and Carrels

  • Group study tables are available throughout the library.
  • Individual study carrels are available on 3rd and 4th floors.
  • Study tables on the 1st floor and 3rd floor, as well as in the Information Commons East (2nd floor) can be used for group work.

Study Rooms

The library has 11 group study rooms that can be reserved online. Individual study rooms are also available on the 4th floor. Individual study rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may not be reserved. See Faculty Studies below for related information.

Faculty Studies

Some of the studies on the 4th floor can be reserved by faculty. For more information on this service, please contact Mark Onken (319) 335-6686 in Hardin’s Administrative Offices.

24 Hour Study

A section of the library on the 3rd floor is kept open all night when the library is closed. The 24 Hour Study is intended to be a quiet study space for our users outside of normal business hours. Access is restricted to UI faculty, students, and staff with University of Iowa or UI Healthcare cards or badges.  Computers, wifi, printing, and study carrels are available in this area.

Information Commons Classrooms

On the 3rd floor, two networked electronic classrooms are available for hands-on group instruction. The instructor’s station features computer and video projection and a stereo system. Each classroom has 25 computer stations. Additional seating is available.

Learning Lounge

Located within the 3rd floor East Commons, this area includes 2 group study rooms with a table and seating for 4 and the two booths each with sitting for 6 in front of the studies. Each study or booth has a 55” monitor equipped with Mersive Solstice software that allows users to wirelessly share the screens of their laptops or mobile devices by connecting using either a browser or the free Solstice app.  Directions for connecting are shown on the monitors.  Moveable white boards are also available in the Learning Lounge.

 

Wellness Spaces

 

Reflection Room (Room 443)

The Reflection Room is designed to be used for reflection, meditation, prayer, or other individual use. The space features subdued lighting, floor mat and sound machine. The Reflection Room can be used on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lactation Room (Room 430)

The Lactation Room is available all hours Hardin is open. It has a Medela Symphony Pump and is located near a restroom.  Wifi is available in the room. Stop by the 3rd floor desk for the key to the room.

Lockers

There are 48 lockers located in the galleria that can be used by faculty, staff, and students. For access to a locker, please contact Mark Onken (319) 335-6686 in Hardin’s Administrative Offices.
