Recall
All materials are subject to recall anytime after the original two weeks of the loan OR immediately if needed for course reserve.
Renewals
All renewals, except for billed, recalled, or reserve materials, can be done online, by phone at 319-335-9150, or in person. Billed materials must be returned. You may check them out again immediately if there are no recalls on the items.
Recalled materials may not be renewed.
Reserve materials may not be renewed.
Recalls
All items checked out can be recalled for Course Reserve. Materials needed for reserve may be recalled at any time. The recall due date overrides the original due date.
When classes are in session, being out of town, failing to maintain a current address or failing to read your e-mail will not be considered valid excuses for their delayed return. This does not include winter sessions and fall and spring breaks.
Email notices are sent to the borrower’s address. A five-day period is allowed for the return of the book without penalty. Borrowers who are away from their offices (vacation, leaves, etc.) will be held responsible for the return of recalled books; library materials should be readily available for office personnel to return upon recall or a current address where the borrower may be contacted should be given.
Fines
Overdue books (materials circulating for 2 weeks or longer) – Fines do not accrue on a daily basis.
Recalled books – $4 per day to a maximum of $40
Overdue journals – 50 cents per day to a maximum of $15
Interlibrary Loan Fines – A $40 non-refundable fine and $100 replacement cost fee (refundable upon return of item).
Reserve Materials – $2 per hour to a maximum of $40
Laptops – $1 per hour to a maximum of $115. After 5 days you are billed an additional $1030 laptop replacement fine by ITS.
Simulators – Fines do not accrue on a daily basis. Items recalled for another user will be fined $4 per day to a maximum of $40. If an item is not returned by the due date you may be billed the entire replacement cost of the item.
The fine charges will appear on your U-Bill and are payable only to the University of Iowa Business Office.
