The Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio collaborates with students, faculty, and staff on the development, and implementation of digital scholarly research projects and publications. Housed in the University of Iowa Libraries, the Studio offers equitable access to space, technology, and digital expertise to shepherd projects from inception to archive.

Our Mission: To advance the impacts and accessibility of research conducted at the University of Iowa, the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio works with students, faculty, and staff to develop digital projects, programming, and publications that utilize new media and methodologies for teaching, learning, and research; public engagement; and scholarly communications.

Our Objective: The Studio supports high-impact research, creative work, and UI student, faculty, and staff success by increasing the capacity for UI researchers to apply digital methods to scholarship. The Studio offers educational programs; access to space, technology, and expertise; and collaborative digital project development.

Our Story: On June 1, 2015, The University of Iowa (UI) Libraries, with support of the UI Provost, launched the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio. The Studio maintains a physical presence in the UI Main Library and was created by merging the Libraries-operated Digital Research and Publishing department with the campus-operated center called the Digital Studio for Public Arts and Humanities. With nearly a dozen full-funded staff positions, the Studio represents a remarkable commitment of institutional resources to the growth and development of digital scholarship. The Studio collaborates with students, faculty, and staff from across campus and the Iowa City community. Today, the Studio offers expertise in digital methods, project development, and publishing through contemporary media and technologies, including the Iowa Digital Library, journals and digital books, podcasting, websites, graphic design, data visualization, mapping, and more.
