From curator Dr. Jennifer Sterling:
Holly Wilson Greene received her PhD in physical education from Iowa in 1980. She worked as an athletic trainer for University of Iowa’s women’s teams throughout their emergent decade of the 1970s, including the field hockey team, which presented her with a “World’s Greatest Trainer” plaque. She was one of the first five women certified by the National Athletics Trainers’ Association (NATA) in 1970, and was an advocate for women’s sports, athletic training for women athletes, and women in the profession of athletic training.
The NATA pin is a one of a larger collection of women’s sports organization pins from Greene’s papers, many of which she was personally involved with including as a National Association for Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) board member and chairperson of their Special Committee on Women in Athletic Training. Greene also served in the U.S. Navy and in numerous capacities for the Special Olympics.
