These three sketches are from an unfished textbook Ding Darling intended to be used in a K–12 educational setting. The drawings show the effects of heat and dust on the natural landscape. 

In Darling’s opinion, the best way to help persuade the public to acknowledge environmental disasters was through education. He spent over a decade advocating for conservation to be incorporated into public school courses. He believed that botany, biology, chemistry, history, sociology, English literature, and politics courses each could discuss environmental conservation.
