Preservation of Founders’ Scrapbooks, Iowa Women’s Archives
This project preserved six scrapbooks produced by Louise Noun and Mary Louise Smith, co-founders of the Iowa Women’s Archives. The scrapbooks contain a wealth of documentation concerning the campaign for women’s participation in national and local governance. Photography, correspondence, printed material and news clippings compiled in the scrapbooks document national leaders and influential organizations spanning the period of the 1940’s to the 1990’s. Manuscript annotations by Louise Noun provide an additional layer of information.
The scrapbooks were mended and the pages provided with attractive, buffered interleave sheets. New enclosures were provided for the original founders scrapbooks. Photocopy facsimiles were produced to provide the preliminary access for researchers. These facsimiles will also provide a security copy of these unique manuscripts.
Project costs: $3,870
