This guide describes the five collections of vertical files on University history available in the University of Iowa Archives, Department of Special Collections. RG numbers refer to the described collection’s record group number.

Alumni and Former Students Vertical Files. Newspaper clippings, obituaries, and other information about individuals who have enrolled at the University of Iowa. RG 01.0015.001.
Campus Buildings and Grounds Vertical Files. Files include information about construction and, where applicable, demolition dates; building uses; architectural data. The files are arranged alphabetically by building name and in some instances include cross-references with previous names for the same structure. RG 01.0015.002.
Faculty and Staff Vertical Files. Newspaper clippings, news releases, obituaries and other biographical information about University administrators, faculty and staff. RG 01.0015.003.
Organizations and Clubs Vertical Files. Over 600 student organizations are represented in this collection. RG 01.0015.004.
Subject Vertical Files. An alphabetical file containing a wide variety of topics pertaining to University of Iowa history. RG 01.0015.005.
