The University of Iowa Main Library Interlibrary Loan Department provides loans and photocopies of materials located in the Main Library and the branch libraries for libraries and institutions. Individuals should contact their public, academic, or corporate library with which they are affiliated to make a request.
Acceptable Methods for Submission of Interlibrary Loan requests:
Requests may be sent by OCLC, SILO, or Online Request Form located at https://uiowa.illiad.oclc.org/lending/lendinglogon.html (please call 319-335-5917 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org for username and password)
We lend items for 6 weeks, bound periodicals for 2 weeks with no renewal, videos for 2 weeks with no renewal. Renewals are available on a case by case basis.
Photocopies are provided if the article is less than 50 pages . Photocopies are sent via Odyssey, Article Exchange, PDF, mail, fax, or air mail.
Special Collections, Reference materials.
Microfilm and Multi-Volume Sets:
Limit of 6 reels or volumes per request.
Dissertations and Theses:
Dissertations and theses are available for loan if a circulating copy is available . Post-1954 dissertations may be purchased from University Microfilms, Inc. (UMI) by calling 1-800-521-3042 or from the UMI Website. We will provide a photocopy only if not available through UMI and with author’s permission.
Will lend if a circulating copy is available.
Videos & Sound Recordings:
Video & sound recordings are lent to U.S. libraries for a 1-week loan plus shipping time.
Bound & unbound periodicals are lent on a case by case basis.
Will lend only to CIC libraries as a last resort on a case-by-case basis. We will scan portions if the condition of the item allows.
Handled on a case by case basis. Items owned in a branch library may take an additional 24 hours for delivery.
